I don’t think I could hire someone based purely on IQ, but it sure does give a good indicator of the kind of work a person could do. Manual labor, lower management, right brain creativity (“art”), left brain creativity (“science” or “programming”), etc.

In the tech world, I see different levels of ability…

Install things with a GUI
Install things with a CLI
Automate installing things with scripts
Write actual code

(And even in “write actual code” there are divisions.)

I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s some IQ correlation with each category. Other fields probably have similar hierarchies.

Yes, I did.

The people at work who willfully tie themselves to Windows aren't as smart.

The ones who use Linux (and understand the shell, it's utilities, and generally how to get around it confidently) are smarter.

And yeah, we could argue about which niche operating system's users are the most hyperdimensional of hyperdimensional megageniuses, but anyone who is honest with himself in the tech world doesn't see Windows users as the brightest bulbs.

Man I've seen this push recently by bizness people to use Windows on dev boxes, and I don't get it.

Because they're too stupid to try Linux for themselves, which really isn't even that hard nowadays. They don't have enough curiosity.

They'd rather be the lowest common denominator that everyone else has to accommodate instead of catching up.

It comes from a position of being intimidated by the ones who do the real work.

I'm confident that their IQ test scores, even though "that's not what IQ tests are testing for," would be lower.

Of course, I can't find any study or chart about correlation between IQ and operating system choice. The moment I type "IQ" in the search engine, I get thousands of propaganda articles about "Look guys, IQ doesn't mean that much, okay?" (I wonder what the writers' IQs are?) instead of the thing I'm searching for.
