This is why you don't hate watch. The studios have it built in that right-wingers getting mad at the latest trash coming out of Hollywood is their marketing strategy.

Except, it's the oposite of marketing.

These shows are getting cheaper every episode.
Star wars can no longer afford to make movies, and they even gad to resurrect clone wars for the 3rd time, since the audience is dropping that fast.

My sis is a huge LOTR fan, and she knew rings of power will be shit.

They tried this strategy, because Twitter bots will eat shit, but they had one attempt to switch their current audience for the new one, and after ~7 years, the old audience is dead, and the new one still ain't coming.

It is a slow process though, and old fans had decades of good faith saved up, so it looed for a moment, like it was working.

3 trilogy star wars movies were both the least objective datapoints possible, and also all the proof Hollywood idiots needed.

@LouisConde
This is the forst move to go all in on this marketing strategy btw.

The full on "Don't watch it bigots" strategy didn't work the first time, and more people do associate it with the worst products out there every day.

@LukeAlmighty @LouisConde The losses were even worse than that, because marketing costs aren't included in the movie budget.
@BobsonDugnuttHB @LukeAlmighty @LouisConde I think there's some kind of ratio to it, like marketing equals half of the budget or something.
@LukeAlmighty @LouisConde
I was reading reviews of Chinese movies and they’re all “wholesome family entertainment like Hollywood made decades ago.” Pretty soon, China will take over film the same way Japan took over animation.
@natsock @LukeAlmighty @LouisConde Chinese propaganda is a different beast. Western propaganda is hate yourself or be our approved version of weird and it's getting less subversive as time goes on, Chinese "propaganda" films are historical dramas and movies that push party values as opposed to the shit YouTubers like Black Pilled would rip apart.

I say less subversive because there was a golden age of propaganda where people would willingly pay money to watch it, not pick up on hidden messages, and get wowed by the actual beauty of old school film stock.
@natsock @LukeAlmighty @LouisConde They will also follow the example of hollywood is now in that they will have chink trannies, chink girl power, racemixing, etc.
is it the opposite of marketing? seems like them saying "lmao the nazis are mad at us because we did a heckin diversity" has worked for them pretty well so far. it's not sustainable of course but for now it's working.

@flux @LouisConde
No, the nostalgia is working. And they are killing it fast.

Tell me, where you saw it working, where a shitton of nostalgia and good will reservoir is not a suitable explanation.

i mean a lot of gynocentric capeshit is a good example. no one had nostalgia for captain marvel, for example, and yet it made decent money AND farmed woke capital-type clout for marvel.

i would wager that the movie probably would have underperformed even more had the filmmakers not bothered to claim that "the nazis are mad at our movie." shitlibs flocked to support the film like the good goy npcs they are.

@flux @LouisConde
> Says the 22nd movie in the saga, and one that was expected to be required watch to finish the entire saga.

You're a nigger

the captain marvel film was piggybacking off of marvel's pool of good will but the character by and large had none of it's own, barely anyone knew who she was and even marvel coomers weren't excited for the film at all.

literally the entire marketing strategy was based off of the ghosbusters 2016 model:

1. make low effort movie with wahmen
2. run to twitter and tell your followers that nazis/incels are mad about it
3. tweets go viral
4. people who weren't even interested in the first place pay money to see the film to "own" the nazis

nostalgia and goodwill doesn't factor into this

@flux @LouisConde
> nostalgia and goodwill doesn't factor into this

Does your mother still have to feed you with that kind of an IQ?

my point is that these people don't do what marvel says in this example because they love marvel, they do it because they think it pisses off the people they hate. this is not a difficult distinction to make i don't know why you're struggling with it so much.

@flux @LouisConde
because I asked you for a movie with 2 variables (successful through "don't watch it marketing", low legacy fan investment), and you chose a 22nd movie in a franchise an your example, that will have the 2nd variable (fan investment) low.

So, you chose an example so bad, I cannot take you seriously. Ever actually.

@flux @LouisConde
Also, it was the FIRST movie in MCU that used that strategy. It was literally the breaking point of a 21 movies long chain of good fucking will.

I lack the words to describe just how retarded of an example it is.

i mean that's pretty much my whole point though. no one was stoked for captain marvel. there was no good will there. even the marvel fandom barely consider it part of the film series' canon.

no one went to see captain marvel because they love marvel or they loved the character, they went because they wanted to "own" the nazis.
@LukeAlmighty Worth noting is that the very point of a lot of this stuff is to destroy that nostalgia and good will. These people don't want to capture the franchise and troon it out and keep running with it, at least not in most cases. The point is to troon it out and then leave the husk on the ground where they found it. It's about cultural vandalism.

Imagine spray painting a dick on the Mona Lisa and smugly going "hah, I fixed it. Don't you think?" And if they say otherwise they lose their job and go homeless. It's a humiliation ritual.

@flux @LouisConde
"What do you mean there's no culture or inspirational media? It's always been this way!"

@NEETzsche @flux @LouisConde
Definitelly.
I am just shocked, that some nigga on the internet is capable of saying that 21 good movies in, there is no good will :blobcatdefecit:

i don't know that i'd say 21 "good" movies

i feel like i made a pretty good case for why goodwill/nostalgia didn't factor in to the captain marvel film considering a) marvel fans (aka the people with the goodwill and nostalgia toward marvel) didn't ask for the film and didn't go see it, and b) most of the marketing for the film centered around the filmmakers claiming that "nazis" were telling people not to go see the film. it wasn't marketed to marvel fans it was marketed to shitlib feminists who never cared about marvel movies or the captain marvel character and still didn't after the fact. goodwill and nostalgia didn't factor in to their decision to see them film and they didn't go see any other marvel films after that. they just took selfies of themselves at the theater for upcummies on twitter. that's not good will and that's not nostalgia, that's clout-chasing motivated by anger.
@LukeAlmighty @LouisConde I knew that Rings of Power would be shit too, although I had hoped that it wouldn't be. But based on the advertising angle, I knew it wouldn't be for me. Especially as a fan of LOTRs. Watched some people talk about it, and that further convinced me.

I'm not sure that hate marketing is really so effective. Especially not when it becomes overused. I'm noticing a pattern and that will tip me off, even if the marketing is wrong about the film itself... might just not be worth going to watch if they keep this up.
@sim @LukeAlmighty @LouisConde hate marketing is only effective when it pisses off journalists and the moral guardians but has some appeal with others, or it's "ironically" watching a bad film.

The joker movie was a good example of the former along with GTA and rap music back in the day, and many films that became cult films were the latter. The amount of hysteria about the joker movie in hindsight felt astroturfed. The latter also has to be 100% organic and not ironically joking about watching it like with Morbius.

There's also the story of how GTA 1 was hate marketed; Max Clifford was hired to promote the game and he encouraged them to turn up the edge to 11 (for 1997) as all the right people were offended. The game sold millions and became a blockbuster hit even as the game has become rather inoffensive just like it's peers were. Hatred also was a successful example of it even though the game was basically a clone of postal 1 with a monochrome filter and a protagonist edgier than Shadow the Hedgehog.

It's a lot harder to make something that's the former these days unless it's underground like NegativeXP or Sam Hydes post MDE projects since it's a lot easier to be shut down. The rise of troon shit and groups that mocking gets you censored for also makes it harder unless you're going to make a game like Heimat Defender or Angry Goy 2 and make it 100% free.
