What do you mean? The money was well spent.

You forgot all about the congressional hearings about how harmful Facebook and Instagram are for the human psyche.

You fell for it so hard, an entire industry (or the illusion of one) was created literally overnight, with a clever name change.

$15 billion made you forget you hated Facebook.

@r000t not really. Meta only jumped into the industry when it was already overhyped, and people didn’t forget they hate Facebook and are still hating on Meta, even more so now that they’ve proven they are completely detached from reality.

This isn’t some kind of 5D chess with time travel move like people often tend to assume when a powerful entity does something seemingly retarded. This is just retarded for real and symptomatic of the fact that the Facebook upper tier sat on a monopoly for so long that they’ve forgotten what people want and how to deliver it.

It is a simple misalignment of the model.
Facebook was a unique service that pushed ads.
Meta is an advertisement platform that supports occasional human interaction.

One of these just is not as attractive as it might sound.
