Do you have a name for the plane?

I have to see what half a meg looks like from the outside.

@LukeAlmighty Oh, I guess I underestimated it. You can get used ones for twice that. Youch.

Beechcraft bonanza. Been in production since….like, 1956? There’s nothing new in planes, it’s all old designs since it’s too expensive to make something new to carry people. The only fresh kit comes in 2-seater sports planes because nobody can afford a 6-seater like they could in the 50’s. They’re nice enough, though you have mental problems if you buy them. Far better served just buying one a few decades old that’s had the new goodies installed up front and save a lot of money.

Then again, the new plane deduction is pretty big.

@WashedOutGundamPilot @LukeAlmighty the fact that they've been in production for that long goes to show just how much use they still have even now, most beechcraft planes are either an entire model series with incremental changes to adapt w/ changing air safety regulation, or just an evolution of a previous design (i.e. the King Air originally being a modified Queen Air)
@ferrarilegends @WashedOutGundamPilot @LukeAlmighty >there was a time in america where any old retard could build a plane with whatever metal and clothe they had laying around
>now you gotta pay a million bucks for a production plane that is only possible because some kid in kentucky watched his dad build one in the 40s
@Boomerman @LukeAlmighty @WashedOutGundamPilot @ferrarilegends kit aircraft still exist but nobody is interested in general aviation anymore anyhow. Especially with insane costs that I keep hearing people complain about or the reputation of it being less safe than even taking the highway.

Kobe Bryant and numerous other rich people and athletes wouldn't be dead if they took a car somewhere like a normal person.
@Boomerman @LukeAlmighty @WashedOutGundamPilot @ferrarilegends ah yeah. Nobody cares enough to do that anymore either. People just wanna sit on VRChat and fap all day now.

> if they took a car somewhere like a normal person.

What a lame statement. Immagine being wealthy as fuck, and deny yourself an experience, that humans could only dream about for thousands of years.

@PhenomX6 @Boomerman @LukeAlmighty @ferrarilegends That was more a function of their pilot not knowing how to say “no” than flight itself. He was getting sloppy on his instrument flight too.

Aviation’s better because I’M the risk source. Driving is safer but I’ve distributed all those fatal variables to a random sampling of drivers who AREN’T me. I’d rather have all the control than trust a bunch of shitskins.

@Boomerman @ferrarilegends @LukeAlmighty The solution is now to just buy a kit and build it yourself. Plus you have those cool EXPERIMENTAL labels all over

I wanna buy one of these just so I can say I’m flying an “ARYAN LIGHTNING”. Plus I think you can cram like, 250hp into it. That thing would scream.

(it’s an Arion but it’s from SA so they have a little diff. accent)

@Boomerman @ferrarilegends @LukeAlmighty You can still do it, just buy a few hundred square feet of dacron and some tubing and get to welding. That’s all a cub is

@WashedOutGundamPilot
> Oh, I guess I underestimated it. You can get used ones for twice that. Youch.

Oh god... Well, we both were. This is insane.

@LukeAlmighty What’s funny about planes is that they’re generally quite cheesy inside, even the ultra high end private jets. They HAVE to be, your performance is greatly affected by weight, and wasting 10 pounds on a solid oak tray to put drinks on negates 10 pounds of baggage for your customers.

Not to mention there’s probably all kinds of standards that go into them so you can’t just make everything out of some new material without rocking the boat more than it’s worth. I’d bet covering the interior with carbon fiber would have the FAA asking a lot of questions about its flammability should you ever catch

@WashedOutGundamPilot @LukeAlmighty For our projects we just need to use flame retardant epoxy resin in all of our composite layups (Not aircraft but highly regulated state approved projects).

Though there is a very interesting carbon aircraft I've been following on youtube, I think you would enjoy some of their content:

@PhenomX6 @LukeAlmighty That doesn’t matter when you’re trying to sell someone a $13 million dollar piece of metal and they remark that the walls look like they’re lifted from a porta potty interior.

That grainy, hollow plastic feels awful to the touch and it picks up grime like crazy. It’s got the same feel as an RV, too. Hard to convince that crowd when they’re used to having their bentley’s rear seat tray thunk down with 30 pound of british oak. Plane fixtures feel low-rent and flimsy in comparison
