Once everyone starts joining in, there will be room for friction, voices will be raised and dimmed and so on. Some effects will spill over into societal effects as well.
These are really tricky issues. Our own research into university campus speech patterns suggest people do not want to speak about issues. Hate speech needs to be confronted, laid bare, examined, debunked, and safe spaces need to be allowed to grow. There are no easy solutions. Deplatforming needs to be a careful decision, and individuals will need to make their decisions what they want to and whom they want to follow.
Would people like their server admins make decisions for them? They may, they may not.

Welcome to the fediverse. One of the last few places on the planet. I have noticed, that you still believe in hate speech. The reason hate speech is being censored so often is, because it is factually correct. If hate speech was wrong, people would spend time debunking it instead of banning it.
Also, in case you really prefer a safe experience, here are your options.
1) turn on a whitelist based federation. It is a software after all, so if you want a 3 people instance, so be it.
2) Go to Twitter or Reddit. You are on the free side of the internet, but the swamp of censorship still does exist in the mainstream. You can find that literally everywhere else but here.
Enjoy your stay, and keep you blacklist empty. As soon as you stop treating everyone around you as a criminal, you might find a good community full of kind people who just occasionally argue about total nigger death.
