@alex Holy fuck what a dunk.
When you break down what the local cops actually were doing it isn’t that egregious of a situation. They found the guy, isolated the threat and evacuated the school grounds as best they could while waiting for SWAT. The problem is largely revolving around the Police Chief’s decision making and there is plausible justification for what he did. The guy has to weigh the option of sacrificing his cops into a fatal funnel to kill the shooter for…..what? They had zero knowledge of what is inside the room, and he assumed that the denizens of the room were most likely all dead, so why force the situation and get more peopled killed.
There are two tactics when dealing with these situations learned from the fiascoes of Ruby Ridge, WACO, and Columbine, one is going in hot and loud and cranking off a lot of rounds, this is the Columbine approach because the two guys were moving around the building and killing people, when the shooter is freely moving about they need to be dealt with immediately otherwise more victims will die.
When you have the shooter confined like Ruby Ridge/WACO its more appropriate to just wait them out and allow them to surrender. The Police Chief, assuming that all people in the room were killed opted for the “wait to surrender” path until so many bodies from different agencies collected on the scene that people just bucked his command and stormed the room. One of the people storming the fatal funnel nearly got his head blown off, and when they entered all denizens of the room had been killed so the risk was pointless.
The problem when discussing stuff like Uvalde is that people inject emotion into it instead of breaking down the problem into component pieces like a programmer would. When broken down like this the police don’t come off looking like total shithead cowards.

I'm starting to see why the world hates programmers.
@corfiot @LukeAlmighty @alex @Salastil They hate when overly analytical people chime in about emotionally-charged issues.
I'm getting sick of it but I can't be bothered to transition yet
I must find the time cause it's seriously messing with my reply-guy-fu
