no idea if it was really covered up (probably was in the 60’s/70’s), but it’s been known to be a severe hazard to all life and they only resolved issues with its uncured state causing cancers, tumors, etc, in workers who are processing it by creating a “closed-loop” system so that they never inhale any of it on accident.
PVC is very common, yeah, and the finished product is pretty darn safe, but the unfinished stuff is not.
OP is clearly exaggerating with the whole "worst carcinogen ever". It doesn't have to the "worst carcinogen ever" for the situation to be fucked. Rat poison is clearly not the deadest substance known to man but that doesn't mean you want it in your food.

Think I’m lying? Look at any IPCC policymaker’s summary ever released (they go back over 20 years, and they’re a summary of the state of the science, as well as a list of projections that were considered credible at the time), and you will see that their guidance projects, in the worst case, a meter or less of rise by 2100, and more like half a meter or less in the more likely scenario.
In none of them was there any kind of suggestion that such an insanely fast rate of sea level rise, that would put entire cities underwater, was plausible, much less likely.
If you actually believe that “the science” ever pointed towards such a scenario, then you, my friend, have been fooled by the pundits.
And by "pundits" you mean "scientists working for the IPCC."
At best they're fantasists, at worst they outright lied to the public. Either way nothing they say will ever be trustworthy again until they can make independently confirmed predictions.

“The science” has been pretty robust for decades now, and they have released several iterations of the policymaker’s summary, going back decades, you can easily find on their website and use to find out what their historical projections actually were.
The entire thing is a marketing campaign, not a scientific theory.

If the IPCC says that the sea level will have only risen a few centimeters in the next 15 years, and in the same year Al Gore, with access to the publications telling him it’s only gonna be a few centimeters, claims that NYC or whatever could go underwater in that time period, then that only discredits Al Gore, not the IPCC.

It discredits both, and it also discredits you when you say "NO ONE claimed that!"
Either way the core point remains: Environmental scientists have routinely made earth shattering predictions about climate disasters in the near future only for them to fall flat with zero professional consequences or willingness to reconsider their theories. Given their tendancy towards exaggeration as a field I'm not willing to take their long term predictions seriously.

I only used ChatGPT because it’s faster than a Google search, and there will be plenty of resources on the internet that explain exactly how deadly it is or isn’t.
