I think you're underestimating just how brutal the messaging is even on the most brainwashed of us.
I used to be like that too, but DePaul attack on Milo crossed the line for me. That broke every single rule I believed to be true at the time.

Even people who are on the edge of SJW cringe do have a breaking point moments.
