There is one thing I seriously hate about the RPGs.

They use speech, so I cannot listen to a podcast while playing.

Unless you're in a part of the game that requires minimal attention, why would you listen to something other than the game?

@Jens_Rasmussen
You've got it in reverse. Podcasts are interesting, but they do require minimal attention most of the time. So, the gaps are perfectly filled with a game of the same complexity.

The only times I listen or look at something other than the game I'm playing is during travel time, something semi-idle like a fishing minigame, or if I'm just waiting for time to pass in-game.
I might pause the game and look at something else, but then I'm not doing it at the same time as I am playing.
@LukeAlmighty @Jens_Rasmussen in my experience, podcasts go well with more manual activities like cooking, running/hiking, gardening etc.
with some types of games they go pretty well too (Dr. Mario), with others it's fine most of the time but sometimes I find myself pausing the podcast because I need to concentrate. it might depend on the type of the podcast too, if it's not very information-dense, I wouldn't mind missing a few sentences
