@cassidyclown @LukeAlmighty people who say there's this huge qualitative difference between humans and theoretical AIs need only look at the mechanism of gambling addiction to be disabused of that notion. It's a simple chemical feedback loop but it can control behavior as predictably as quartz crystal.

@cassidyclown @LukeAlmighty @gav It's not just a technical short-circuit of brain reward systems though-- it's not like the brain was poorly designed and has a flaw. It's a consequence of building a creature who has to approach and acquire things to survive, who has to chase down its meals.

It's like a radio receiver-- you have to tune it to a certain threshold to receive a weak signal, but when you do so you also increase the noise.
