Trying to set up a password with my mom.
I ask her (according to my best knowledge om topic) to tell me a line from her favorite movie/book/argument/literally anything.

She just kept looking at me as if I were insane. She just cannot recite anything word for word.

@LukeAlmighty no, your mom is looking at you like you're insane because you're practucing terrible opsec
Just generate a password like normal people

@nukie
Yeah... boomers are known for being able to remember a series of 20 random symbols.

@LukeAlmighty >what is a password manager
Or just write it on a piece of paper. That way your passwords can only be stolen by someone who breaks into your home

@nukie
That is the prime example of bad advice.

Noone can access your password, including you. What a great idea.

@nukie
Ok, I admit defeat... for you note is sufficient.
But my Mom doesn't have that ability.

@LukeAlmighty I don't even use a note lol, all my passwords are just my name and date of birth
Thankfully noone I know knows both of those things and I make a throwaway email for every account so my shit is locked down tight

@nukie
My favorite password is for Uplay.
I just don't give a fuck anymore, so I just restart password every time, and put in random shit.

@nukie @LukeAlmighty Add +servicename to them, so that if they try xckd 792 they have to do it by hand.
@LukeAlmighty @nukie @LukeAlmighty
A password manager is something that many boomers don't want to use.

@special-boy @nukie
A password manager is about as good of an idea as wifi connected electronic lock :omegalul:

Good on paper, but it will fuck you up when you least expect it.

@special-boy @LukeAlmighty I could understand why, I used a password manager once and it just irreversibly locked me out one day with no hope of recovering shit
@LukeAlmighty @nukie @LukeAlmighty
install keepass, save the password file on all devices you use (synch it if you have something like that set up)

unless you loose all your devices at once youll be fine
@special-boy @LukeAlmighty I just don't trust like that anymore
if I ever decide to become secure, I'll just keep a notebook on my desk or something. I don't really have that many important account anyway
@LukeAlmighty @nukie @LukeAlmighty
you dont need to trust keepass
you can check it if you want
or you can just use a .txt file and encrypt it in any way you like
@special-boy @LukeAlmighty yeah but that's no better than encrypting my password file with any other method. I've been burned and I don't want to touch the stove again, simple as. I'll concider it though
