I was considered gifted back when I was a child. Where did all that talent go? Well, it disappeared around the same time the metaphorical rug was pulled out from under me by powerful people who care more about maximizing profits than benefiting the people of a nation. These same powerful people deconstructed and destroyed any semblance of community and spirituality just so they could grow the GDP. They tell me I'm living in the best time of human history. How so? Is it simply because we have more material possessions than our ancestors? All the material wealth in the world means nothing if people are spiritually bankrupt. The modern world has nothing substantial to offer me, so I'll just sit back and let it burn.
@okuu It makes more sense if you translate “gifted” to “Average” by 1960 educational standards.
A lot of millennials aren’t all that amazing, the standards just dropped insanely low
@WashedOutGundamPilot @okuu In the past half century, government spending on schools has increased while performance has decreased.
I know Engineer graduates who could barely write a paper.
And then I looked at what they're forced to teach...
@LionelValentineAborted @WashedOutGundamPilot @okuu I wanted to be a part-time physics teacher for high school, since it was a physics teacher who helped inspire me.
But the public school system is an abject failure and it would be a waste of time and resources to try and teach there.

Ain't it funny how many people actually would love to teach kids, but schools make it into a toxic work?
Now, that is some serious "we live in a society" moment.
