@coolboymew isn't the BBC 100% taxpayer funded? Or close to it?
@D00B as far as I'm aware, yes

and "taxpayer funded", it's an obligatory tax from the gov that you cannot get out of. Might as well just call it government funded, because that's what it is

@coolboymew @D00B You can get out of it, but only if you literally do not own a television and/or aerial antenna

@VD15 @D00B yeah but that's impossible, like, everyone has a TV even if they don't watch TV TV. If you have one just for video games, computer or online stuff, you're still subject to it which is stupid

@coolboymew @D00B Yes. Even in those cases where you’re legally exempt, you’ll still occasionally get a knock at the door and they’ll try to bully you into paying it. The ads they put out are also only slightly Orwellian.

Am I an asshole?

@VD15 @D00B @coolboymew
Someone I knew wanted to watch a tenis match, so I registered a UK account with fake name, a RANDOM ADDRESS and a "Pinkney promise" that I have payed the license.

The address was required... I didn't want to point it to anyone.

re: Am I an asshole?

@LukeAlmighty @VD15 @D00B if their system sucks that's on them lmao

@coolboymew @VD15 @D00B
Sure, but it's the only registration that I still remember for being this awful.
