The "I could never do that" is something I'd like to address, too.
I think the people who think that have no idea how little time is actually spent teaching their kids anything in a public school. I have much older kids, and a bunch of younger ones. The old ones went through the public school systems, I was too young at the time to be aware of what a disservice I did them. Even they would admit that now, but such is life when you have kids when you're young and dumb. I gathered in great detail how much wasted time there was in the school day they went through, and realized that yes, I COULD do that.
Even working full time. Even having dozens of animals I take care of. Even gardening constantly, even through the winter months. Even having numerous hobbiesI take part in. Even being an avid reader, musician, artist, shitpoaster, craftsman, busy homeowner, and so many other things, in addition to working, I did have time. And it turns out I could do it better.
That myth that you don't have time to educate your kids...why is that? Because people want to blow their time when they get off work watching TV instead of spending it with their kids? We have time to spare. Our whole lives are a field trip, my kids, just like most humans, are surrounded by sciences, surrounded by art and physical activities and extracurriculars, not just the basic subjects you cover together after work.
You should be doing these activities with your kids ANYWAY - why not make it a part of their education. It always was.
If you find yourself thinking you can't - try. You can always go back, the jewish nanny state would love your money. There is extra work involved, but it's worth it...and in most of the cases I've seen, the things in the way of people thinking they have time for it are far less important than your job as a parent and educator for your children.
