@LukeAlmighty @Wormwood it's not some deep emotional disturbance, it's just a miswiring of brain systems that are normally used in social situations. It's a classic subject/object confusion... the brain has a bunch of pre-made patterns (archetypes) it uses to understand things in the world, and a lot of these patterns are the same between men and women, just used in different ways-- in men, the pattern of "feminine" is used to recognize women and help interact with them, in women that same pattern is used as a template for behavior imposed upon the self.

This guy's mind is so fucked up from having so little social interaction while growing up that he never really hooked up those patterns to his perceptual system properly, so instead of the pattern lighting up when he's talking to a women as an object of desire, it lights up when thinking about himself AS an object of desire.

There probably is some emotional shit there too, mind you, but the basic mode of operation is purely mechanical. You see a bunch of men with AGP who aren't emotional wrecks at all, and don't care about being actually desirable, a lot of them seem to revel in being ugly, behaving outright sadistically pushing their way into shit like women's bathrooms because they enjoy making biological women nervous.
