There should be a name for attempting a word branding swap in the ‘opposite-coded’ direction. I think both writers are attempting this same tactic in the headline.

@dave
I am not sure I understand the concept you're describing....
But it does sound like a random deep insight. :awooke:

@LukeAlmighty The top title is trying to appeal to people that think they care about law and order, but might be gullible enough to be persuaded by the argument that “law and order” means not being sympathetic to a young ex-marine trying to stop a homeless man terrorizing people.

The bottom title is trying to appeal to people that think they care about social justice, but might be gullible enough to be persuaded by the argument that “social justice” means being sympathetic to a young ex-marine trying to stop a homeless man terrorizing people.

Both groups more or less want the same thing probably, but they don’t realize it IMO. It’s the extremists distorting things that makes it hard for them to realize it.

@dave @LukeAlmighty In my head I picture this phenomenon as a right-winger yelling "leftists are the real nazis!".

@ai @LukeAlmighty It’s a similar idea, but in that case, that stems from older family members offering concessions in order to keep the peace with their younger relatives who have been brainwashed by the education system.

You flip the idea around. Once you both accept “homophobia is bad”, you start using that premise as a negotiation tactic to move them on your pet issues.
