you have no idea what you're talking about.

>Internet Dangers
If you are not educated, you will not "browse the internet". 99% of your time will be spent on mainstream sites. facebook. youtube. amazon.Your browser will update automatically.

>it might save their bank accounts
it won't. Antivirus is famously ineffective against any real threat. Snake oil that doesn't work.

>bad trade
Your PC will behave unpredictably worse. Sometimes, scans interrupt important work or a conference call with suddenly unbearable performance. Sometimes archives won't extract because the 'real-time protection' cannot keep up. Many antivirus vendors now install MITM proxies onto your computer, root certificates that sniff all https traffic, for "protection" of course. And these certs HAVE made their way to blackhats in some cases. Which DOES actually put your bank account at risk. To add insult to injury, the program then terrorizes the users with threats about 'lacking protection' unless they pay up, mafia style.

@WandererUber
If you believe, that uneducated users do not browse the internet, you're just retarded.

They do not go out of their way to search for danger, but whenever they do leave facebook, they have 0 survival instinct. They do NOT know what they're clicking.

@LukeAlmighty go ahead and ignore 90% of what I said to nitpick. And then miss the point completely. good job.

The point:
It's not like the old days. Normies are ON the plantation 99% of the time. Just for that, risk is just 1% of what it was way back when.

The remaining 1% is further mitigated by browser updates and 2fa

The remaining risk is NOT mitigated by AV. AV INCREASES attack surface instead.

@WandererUber
> But muh real threats
Nothing will protect you from the feds etc. That is not the point of the antivirus software. By that standart, it doesn't make sense to wear an armor on battlefield, since you won't survive a nuke anyway.

@LukeAlmighty You should read what I said instead of strawmanning me.
Don't make up a guy in your head that thinks the feds will target normies. Ridiculous!
@WandererUber @LukeAlmighty It's also worth mentioning that Anti-Virus companies are known for creating the demand for their products themselves.
@BudSpencer @LukeAlmighty that would be harder to prove but I wouldn't put it past them.
Verisign and others monopolized signing https certs and then campaigned for browsers terrorizing users with warnings if the cert isn't signed. All while giving out certs to shady individuals and cooperating with fed data sniffers, compromising the whole system.

Cert business and AV are tightly coupled so it stands to reason that AV vendors would be similarly unscrupulous. Plus I am reasonably certain they take cash for adding progs to the definitions. Nowadays many keygens and software cracks are blocked by windows defender as malicious, even though they contain no viruses.
@WandererUber @LukeAlmighty Most Viruses are written by Hackers, intelligence, other gouvernment actors, but i know personally of malware created to sell a certain malware removal tool. It was of course not developed in house, but a freelance order was placed and has been fulfilled by the freelancer.
