@alyx I was going to say: "well at least the EU isn't exerting it's tyranny on other countries by holding their market hostage against private companies and making them capitulate to their moral standards" but that seems to be it's sole fucking purpose.

Still, if the UK fucks off, the yellow vests finally get Macron's head and Germany goes all fifth reich once Merkel dies of old age, I imagine the EU will crumble soon after. And while that's enough if's to make a programmer sweat, it's possible.

China, on the other hand is a difficult case because we can't exactly do much from out here and I suspect the cries from Hong Kong are going to go largely ignored by the west because 'muh global market reach'. The new means of oppression are through private companies; dollars hurt more than bullets. Until people here stop doing business with companies that buckle to china, the threat they pose is not going away any time soon.
