There is no decent open source browser. :blobshrug:

@nil @nonetrix@neckbeard.xyz
What's the big difference between Chromium and a Chromium based browser that is actually polished, works on Android too, actually gives me bookmark sync etc.

@nil @nonetrix@neckbeard.xyz
So you're saying that the only reason I should pick an open source software vs a refined version of that open source project is a label? Sorry, that's not gonna be enough for me.
If I have to choose between LibreOffice and Microsoft Office, sure I'll choose LibreOffice, because it's a completely different code. But if I had to choose between original LibreOffice and a fork (let's call it PaidOffice) that was no longer open-source, but was significantly better, the open-source label by itself won't convince me to not switch to PaidOffice.

And the reason I'm calling it just a label, is because I don't have the expertise to actually audit the code myself or to compile the browser from the audited code. So for me, there's not gonna be a big difference between trusting random people that I don't know to check Chromium's source code, and trusting the devs at Vivaldi.

@alyx @nonetrix Calm down, I didn't say you should pick anything, I said Chromium is a good open source browser

@nil @nonetrix@neckbeard.xyz
It is usable enough for most people I guess. But as I see it, it's a broken version of Chrome. I've been more satisfied with close-source forks of it than Chromium itself.

@alyx Ever try Iridium? IIRC that’s a closed-source fork of Chromium. @nil @nonetrix

@cowanon @nonetrix@neckbeard.xyz @nil
Tried it. Except for different, privacy focused, default settings, didn't really have anything above a regular Chromium.

Seriously, why the fuck is everyone trying to get me away from the one browser that works for me, that isn't Chrome, Brave or shitty Firefox?

@cowanon @nonetrix@neckbeard.xyz @nil
I have Bromite on an old rooted phone as a replacement for the default WebView. But as a regular browser I'd still need something that syncs with PC.

@cowanon @nonetrix@neckbeard.xyz @nil
I've tried Firefox. Multiple times. On desktop it doesn't really add anything, and on Android, I've found that anything not Chromium is horrible at actually integrating with the system. I'd like that if I click on a Youtube link in the browser, that it actually opens with NewPipe for instance. Firefox is shit for that.

@alyx Okay. Then no worries. Keep rolling with what you like to roll with. Hell, I’ve heard people shit on Manjaro which is what I use, but I don’t care. @nonetrix @nil

@cowanon @nonetrix@neckbeard.xyz @nil
I think people shit on Manjaro because they're jealous we can set-up the system easier while still having all the benefits of Arch.
