Here's something for the Covid19 conspiracy theorists.

Do you know how AIDS deaths are recorded? Trick question, they're technically not. People who die with AIDS will usually die from severe infections like pneumonia, and are recorded as dying from pneumonia with an underlying AIDS condition.
So why is it like this? Because AIDS is the underlying condition that while it weakened you, it won't or can't kill you anytime soon by itself. Pneumonia came around though, and it finished you off. The killing blow is the one that counts.
But because HIV is such an unique virus, what you will have is a statistic of how many people with AIDS have died.

Now, let's think back to how Corona-chan deaths are recorded. Oh right, something like heart disease or old age weakens you, and Corona comes around to finish you off. Because the underlying condition is something you probably lived for a while, and could have probably lived for a good while longer, it's Corona-chan's finishing blow we give the credit for the kill to.

@alyx Right. CDC doesn't record flu, just pneumonia. The flu can also kill old people via ARDS or other means, so they go back and retroactively estimate flu deaths. pneumonia deaths were at 50k for 2016, 55k for 2017 and the 2019 estimate retroactively said 20k~60k died from flu. That's a huge range!

I found all that when I was making this: covid19data.ml (don't use it, it's old and crap and unmaintained)

@alyx people aren't counted with aids without being tested first unlike what many states did to covid19
@colonelj @alyx
wow... you still missed the point. AIDS isn't the corona in this comparison. AIDS is literally the underlying condition before Corona-chan hits.

For all your claims of documenting yourself, you're still really bad at following things.
@alyx @alyx so it's cool to count someone dying of covid19 without confirming the person even has it first?
@colonelj @alyx
Psst... I'll let you in on a little secret, sometimes doctors can make diagnosis without needing a nose swab. :blobcatshocked:

Seriously, you think every flu diagnosis out there is made only after a laboratory test?
We're at a point where if a patient comes in with an insane cough, complains of difficulty breathing, tells you they feel a weight on their chest, and you take an X-ray of their lungs and you see it's completely fucked up, and then they die in a few days, that's basically 99% chance of Corona. There's no point of taking the test anymore. The "confirmation" IS the doctor using his reasoning skills to see that the symptoms match too well for there to be a reasonable chance it's something else.
