If we as Americans would put our differences aside and work together, we could achieve things that would make everyone's lives so much better it would make people's ideas of socialism outdated.

Sad part is, we know this happened in the past. For instance, I don't think people understand anymore how big of an accomplishment going to the moon in the 60's was. It took China another 50 fucking years to do that, and they didn't even sent actual people.

@alyx we take so many things for granted. Smart phones and the Internet should have accelerated humanity yet it was manipulated to regress it.
@alyx @SteveTheDragon Moon mission was impossible 50 years ago, considering cheapest mass-production oriented technologies, which were mostly targeted to produce ballistic missiles. Interestingly that all space programs in 1960s-1970s were based on probability to achieve success, not on real records (as it become a standard for aviation - Concord for example). Just because of that all 100% successful Moon missions, combined together make "the mission impossible". Americans never were at the Moon. And China with its "another 50 fucking years" has a real chance to be the first country to do that first. How the real mission WERE possible in 1970: 1. Launch low-level space station. 2. Aggregate significant amount of fuel at the low level orbit, using at least 5-10 standard rockets. 3. Launch an empty small-size rocket, and transfer fuel. 4. Start from low-level orbit THROUGH THE NORTH or SOUTH POLE and spend tons of fuel to give a chance for people to survive in Van-Allen radiation belts. ... 156. Reach the Earth alive.
