This can't be true can it?
70% is considered an A in Britain?
I guess that would explain a lot.

@Terry
Romania doesn't have this weird letter system. For us, anything below 50% is a fail.
For the first few years of school we had (not sure if it's still in effect) a system of: very good, good, satisfactory and unsatisfactory.
"very good" was roughly 85-100%
"good" was 70-85%
"satisfactory" was "50-70%
Anything below was unsatisfactory, and considered a failing grade.
If you fail at 1-2 classes, you need to pass an exam to pass the year.
If you have 3 failing classes, it's an automatic repeat of the school year.

@alyx @Terry US: A - 90-100% (good) B - 80-89% (almost good) C - 70-79% (meh) D - 60-69% (you are retarded) F - 50-59% ( failing)

but its not really a standard system and a lotta highschools and schools nowadays in general dont use it

gpa is the number that matters and thats 0-4, need at least a 2.5 or 3 to pass most classes

really none of them matter

@a7 @alyx @Terry it amuses me how low passing grades are compared to the standards professionals are sometimes held to :blobcatlul:

@icedquinn @Terry @alyx most younger people i encounter dont even get letter grades any more, they still have gpa’s but like the grades they get per assignment are this weird ✔ ✔+ or o from what i understand ✔+ is like a high A 95-100% o is didnt even do it and ✔ is 60-94ish %

i think its to avoid hurt feelings or something i dunno

@a7 @Terry @alyx there were projects saying grades were racist but when i was in school i definitely got letter grades.

@icedquinn @Terry @alyx i dunno if grading systems are standardized now, but i dont think they were when i was in school, i had some classes where we got percentages only, letter grades, and my ap english class didnt have checks, but it had complete and incomplete and the only thing that seriously changed your grades were in class essays and papers - i think that was to simulate how college works or something idk - i got failed for writing a satirical persuasive essay on why suffragist were terrorist and womens suffrage should end, i guess that was like college or something. I ended up recycling the essay in community college the teacher liked it there, but their aide was very angry.

@a7 @Terry @alyx at my community college we had numbers. elementary had letters. every country varies what the symbols mean though. some of them don't haveD's.
@a7 @Terry @alyx horrifyingly, a D was considered passing at college (but was equivalent to an F in elementary.)
@alyx there are small variations in the US but anything less than 70 percent is a big fat F. An A is like 90 percent or higher.

90 percent.
