Haven't heard about NASA deleting anything. Would be nice to see a credible source on that.

As for why the technology to go the to Moon is "lost", is because engineering has changed a lot since then, including how parts are made. The people that made the Saturn V rockets back in the day are probably dead by now, and the young engineers looking at the old rocket engines don't actually understand how they were put together, because the manufacturing methods have changed so much.

I recommend watching a video of contemporary steel workers trying to make a cast iron cannon the old way. Another example: It took Experimental archaeologists to recreate medieval burning arrows. The magic ingredient was Iron filings. Imagine trying to figure that out when you only know that sulphur was used. Next example: Greek fire. The ancient flame thrower has been recreated. The fuel is still forgotten. It was a state secret that only a few people in Rome (yes, Rome motherfucker! Eat like Arius ate St. Nick's knuckle sammich!) where privileged to know. Among them the emperor. Guess who was lost during the fall of Constantinople.
