Didn't the British own that land or something, and kinda gave it to them? Israel history is kinda confusing to me.
But the interesting part is that apparently "Palestinian" didn't exist as a known/recognized ethnicity until Jews got Israel, and the Muslims around got annoyed and kinda made up the Palestinian identity.
@alyx an uncontested piece of land sounds way more suspicious to me than the random spawn of an ethnic group tbh, also British owning shit around the world is like the most bullshit reason for anything.
