Comparing the two is idiotic. One is a criticism of a widespread ideology, that has a massive impact on how people are allowed to live their lives (including on how they consume porn), and the other is just porn.

I don't personally advocate for restricting either of them, but you can't use one to argue in favor of the other, as if they're comparable. People need to find better arguments.

@alyx @metokurist If you introduce a blanket porn ban, you can bet your ass the government is going to abuse this to stifle speech. Blanket banning loli is just the beginning. Besides, you are better off with not allowing posting or repeating porn and other than that not giving a shit what your users jack off to. Here! It all comes down to retarded politics.

While a government that would want to ban any kind of porn would certainly be inherently authoritarian and interested in banning a lot of "unpopular" speech, it would be hard to use a porn ban as the starting point itself, imo.

Porn is quite easy to define without resorting to vague wordings like "something that causes offense" that you would need to spread to a general ban on freedom of speech (something like that you're gonna see in hate speech laws). So unless a law banning porn was purposefully worded badly to allow it to be twisted later on, it's not something that would be easy to abuse.

@alyx @metokurist They will write something that is easy to abuse, because there will be that one Puritan who would also ban act paintings. Was a one of the best themes in The Pilgrim’s Digress which is about police commando hunting down Sexbot users and Sexbot manufacturers.
