The most dramatic change for me was how memes went from being something mostly innocent and funny, to being political shitfests. Deep down I HATE all the memes that reached widespread use after about 2013-2014. I've got so many good memories about the old rageface memes, but this current crap... I honestly find it hard to acknowledge them as true memes. Call me boomer or whatever, I don't care. That's how I really feel.

While I like fedi overall, and appreciate it's unique culture and feel.... in the end it's an insignificant speck on the face of the internet. I don't see it having an influence on the outside.
If we were to be honest with ourselves, we'd recognize that the biggest influence on the overall internet culture right now are Reddit, Twitter, Youtube, and the new player, TikTok. And we already know what the relationship between those first 3 and the mainstream media is like.
But the oldfags are too stubborn to recognize their defeat, and they'll probably screech something about 4chan and image boards.

And I am just hoping things will stay this way. Fedi doesn't need an influx of new users and elevated interest of big players. This place is good as it is because it is small enough.
