So far, I haven't managed to see much of the reaction to her candidacy, either because I'm not deep enough in political fedi, or I haven't been active enough lately. I did expect there would be some backlash from the people that vehemently oppose trans activism no matter what.
@alyx @shebang Schwarzenegger seems supportive, and has said that anyone who runs needs to have a clear vision of what they want to do. I had to go back and actually read up on his record because I really didn’t give a shit about California while he was governor. Arnold did get re-elected though, completing two terms as a republican (1.5 technically since he started during a recall; still hitting the max of 2 in California).
In the current climate, Jenner might only be electable as a republican due to identity. Her policy would need to stand squarely against the state legislature, as did Schwarzenegger’s, for her to be seen as a viable Republican. (Remember Arnold opposed gay marriage and only supported cannabis legalization in his second term as an attempt to move more center). Only the west coast of Cali is liberal. The rest is a completely different country, filled with conservatives and meth.
Honestly America would be better off if the entire West Coast from L.A to Seattle for 300 miles inland was removed from the union.

Weeellll I mean its Caitlyn Jenner — she’s a bit controversial no matter what she does, but she has been a lifelong Republican, you’d think they’d care about that.
But at least from my — definitely warped — version of the fedi I’ve seen the R’s mocking her more than anyone else. I suppose if I had a view from the other side I might see something else too.
I donno I’m like, “Well you want more Newsome? because this how you get more Newsome.” It just feels like hey, you keep saying that you aren’t hateful towards LGBT people and when one finally runs all you can do is make jokes about her being trans.
Neither of the D’s and R’s impress me much, and its costing them groups like WalkAway and they are just too dumb to see i.
