I now own 2 different portable cassette players
one is a basic sony walkman, no advanced features, takes 2 AA batteries
the other is a sony recording walkman, auto reverse, mega bass and digital buttons, takes a gumstick battery and 1 AA.
they are both very good for what they are but I like the simpleness of the basic one a bit more, i press play and it plays, very easy to grasp and theres no screen to look at.
both have their uses (one for using to listen, the other as a recorder)
I very much enjoy listening to music this way, and i like the format as a physical thing too
its very quaint and nice.

Holly fluff! You still have and use cassette players? That's so awesome!

@alyx
i had one as part of an old stereo as a kid but only started buying them recently
people sell cassettes for pretty cheap in charity shops and ebay (some stuff can be pricey tho) and new music gets put on cassette, by both smaller musicians and bigger names
for example:
killswitch engage's newest album has a cassette release and even katy perrys newest album did
there are tons of small artists on bandcamp that sell a cassette, usually as a limited run, but you also get the album digitally too, tho these can be expensive depending on shipping

If you have a good recording deck, you can always record your own tapes too. So there's theoretically nothing stopping you from putting a digital album on tape. Except that good recording decks are hard to come by. My understanding is that no one makes high quality tape stereos anymore.

@alyx
yeah thats the case
i did actually buy a "refurbished" deck recently, tho it destroyed my tape within an hour, i dont think it was actually cleaned properly or anything. so i sent it back
the second player i have is also a recorder, so i use that to record my own music to listen to, specifically stuff that doesnt have a tape release, its got a bit of wow and flutter (wobbly sound) but im happy with it
