Even instinct and common sense is an evolved human trait. I think it's Sargon that argues that these are ways we unconsciously process large volumes of data we observe every day to come to certain "stereotype" conclusions, that while not 100% correct, are accurate enough in a vast majority of cases to be useful in our daily decision making process.
@alyx I know nothing of neurology, so I don’t know how much of a Bayesian Inference mechanics is involved in a human’s ability to make probabilistic decisions based on past similar information. I would guess that a great amount, but as I said, I am an ignorant on the subject.
@alyx As much as I commend those studies, it is quite interesting that all they basically do is just to confirm people’s common sense, to confirm what people already realize just for pure direct observation. But at least those studies provide more solid corroboration that people’s common sense is not that far off.
