I remember watching Chernobyl and I found the dialogue by Soviet bureaucrats to be unbelievable deranged in some scenes. But then I also heard from people who lived in the Soviet Union that it wasn't that unusual for the time.

Even after the recent Pfizer FOIA stuff, even after much of the world has or is rolling things back. I still see western politicians repeating the same lies they repeated last year, and the year before. They just keep repeating it. No matter how much new information they get, or how obvious the truth gets, they never accept they were wrong. They will lie, deny, ignore, pivot away from anything that compromise their core "truths" as prescribed to them by another bureaucrat. These people have to know they're lying, right?
