Just for reference, it was
@flussence again, because
https://pleroma.flussence.eu/api/v1/instance/peers was absurd, like last time. The fedilist crawler knows how to account for bad data (half of fedi is down and mitigating parked domains and whatnot ends up mitigating malicious domains), but the "Fuck you, I'm a dragon!" guy flooded my RSS feed reader, which is kind of annoying. I was avoiding making fun of the guy because maybe it's possible he will not be a dick at some point in the future, but I guess today is not that day. (The funny thing is, he's blocked the crawler, so it thinks his instance is down, but it checks back periodically and takes longer and longer between checks when an instance is down, on the assumption that the longer it's down, the longer it's likely to stay down. But then he unblocks it once in a while to screw with it, so it thinks "Oh, this instance was up last week, let's check again.")
Speaking of the fedilist crawler, there are at present 9,030 instances (3,818 Mastodon, 1,144 Peertube, 1,116 Pleroma, 445 WriteFreely, 441 Wordpress, 364 Misskey, 342 Friendica, 278 Pixelfed, plus miscellaneous.) By state:
up: 9,038
down: 14,875
nxdomain: 10,122
shenanigan: 50
blacklisted: 58,257
It's FYIAD guy that is responsible for 99% of the blacklisted ones (see the link above if you're curious what he's doing), but the other ones are things like parking pages, etc. ("shenanigan" is the state used when the instance is doing something screwy and the data is obviously incorrect, for example if the hostname resolves to 127/8 or 10/8 or
1.1.1.1 or something.)
Of the instances that are up, exactly 3,000 report open registrations. There are 565,154,416 posts created by 5,206,567 accounts.
