@icedquinn The Cinnamon DE is indeed free software, but that needs to run on an OS.
I'm guessing that you use Mint GNU/Linux, which isn't Unix (as that's a trademark that requires payment and certification), but such is Unix-like.
The standard version of Linux contains proprietary software, which makes it malware.
Mint also offers malware for download in the package repositories without even warning the users properly (I'm pretty sure it's just a single nonfree switch that then enables everything no matter what the actual proprietary license is).
If they're really using Unix desktops, there's nothing to fret about, as proprietary malware is the complete opposite of cool.
My thinkpad desktop is the coolest - it's stock xfce4 with only free software installed on the machine (including the BIOS).
