So, it's been about a week now since I switched Cornbread from Purina Kitten Chow to Purina One Healthy Kitten Formula.
At first, he didn't like it because some of the pieces are a lot crunchier to help clean his teeth but after about a day he got used to it and was not only eating it like he did the kitten chow but was eating slightly more of the dry food than he had previously so I'm guessing he likes it better once he got used to the crunch.
Another thing I've slowly noticed over the week is that he's gradually gotten even more energy than the abundance of energy he already had. He also seems to be getting stronger. He's jumping a lot higher. In the past two days, he no longer has to jump mostly onto my bed and then pull himself up with his claws he can just make it all the way up in one jump. He was also able to climb up my kitchen cabinets onto the counter and can now also jump between the kitchen table and kitchen counter. He's getting stronger.
Can't say for sure if that's because of the food but I'm willing to say at least 70% of that is because of the food.
I'm just glad he's getting all the nutrition he needs; especially while he's still developing.
I might actually look into getting him Purina One wet kitten food as well. Especially after seeing this difference. His stockpile of cat food can wait for when he's a cat. Despite him turning 1 in December I think I'm going to keep him in kitten food until some time in February just in case he has some stunted growth due to malnutrition in his earlier months. I want to give him all the nutrition he needs to fully develop.
However now there's a line called Purina Pro Plan that's supposedly even better. I was doing research on it last night until I fell asleep whilst in the middle of reading about it. Neutritionally it seems to be about the same. 1-2% more protein, 1-2% fewer carbs, guaranteed live probiotics, and I think I remember reading that no corn products are in the Pro Plan. Really, I'm not 100% sold on it for the price. The only benefit I really see is that have a line of Pro Plan that can reduce the amount of allergens your cat produces by up to 40%. I don't think I'm actually allergic to him tho. I still take Zertec every night just in case but I think the night I brought him in was a combination of seasonal allergies plus him just being pretty dirty. Even if I am, the Zertec makes it a moot point.
Actually, I'm gonna try and stop taking the Zertec and see what happens. This time of the year should have the fewest variables with seasonal allergies.
