I love that EVERY TIME someone tried to defend mushrooms to me, it has ALWAYS been them arguing how good they are when you add a fuckton of other ingredients next to them. When was the last time you've heard of someone eating empty mushrooms, with no seasoning, with no side-dish (or main dish, cause mushrooms are usually the side-dish), no nothing?
I'll tell you what, a steak works pretty damn well all by itself. Even most vegetables work well by themselves.
@alyx Fried mushrooms and onions are really good. It's not alone but it's just two ingredients
@applejack
Fried onions are amazing. Friend onions are used in a few Romanian dishes I can think of, of the top of my head. So I'm not surprised that someone says "fried mushrooms and onions are really good", cause I know the inherent potential of friend onions to make anything next to them good.
Friend mushrooms on the other hand are probably horrible. I guess I'd need to ask how you're frying them, cause I've had mushrooms cooked on a BBQ grill many years ago, and I honest to god thought I was eating barbecued dirt.
I've eaten carrots freshly plucked from the soil and washed, and they tasted amazing.
Go eat a freshly plucked mushroom if you dare.
