@hj from the trailer, honestly, I don't see anything special, except the light from energy ball coming through the portal.

The materials and models look like a mediocre fan mod.

The problem with such conversions is that the game initially had a specific art direction, and you're basically throwing that away. I'm sure steps can be taken to keep it consistent with the original, but that would take more work and consulting the original art director. But this is probably another cheap media stunt, like Quake II or Minecraft.

@alyx @hj it's definitely possible to keep the original visuals, adding new details and bits that wasn't possible before (or maybe nobody bothered).

It's unfortunate if they didn't. Would be still fun to replay, especially that Portal 1 is a small game.

@a1ba @hj
I'm pretty sure they didn't do this properly. Valve barely got it together to release HL:Alyx. They hired an outside developer to patch up TF2. They wouldn't have wasted their energy on this. This is most likely Nvidia's doing. And Nvidia won't have the same love for the product.

@alyx @hj there is no need for such speculation. Because that's how it is.

The remaster was made by Lightspeed Studios, NVIDIA's own game studio to push their hardware. They also ported Portals to Switch this year, and Half-Life 2 and Portal to NVIDIA Shield years ago.

And they not only licensed Valve's IPs, they also have few others, you can look up this yourself.
@a1ba @alyx >there is no need for such speculation.

did someone say "speculation"?

/me reaches for his spas-12 and shell labelled "tyler mcvicker"
@hj @alyx oh, no, pls not that schizo.

Crying that somebody leaked GTA shit, but his whole career is showing off leaks.

He did? I haven't seen that. Was it on his twitter or where? Thing is, the GTA leak is more akin to HL beta leak that what Tyler has been doing.

@alyx @hj it's not even close to hl2 beta leak. It's just few concept vids and incomplete one source file. And probably attempt at ransom? idk we will never know the full story

@a1ba @hj
Still, how often have we seen actual footage or images released by Tyler, while the game was still unreleased. Most he usually gives out during development is snippets of text tags and speculations.
I think he's well aware that HL2 could have been a very different game if not for the hack, that Valve's hand was forced into changing things, and it might very well hold true for Rockstar and GTA6.

@alyx @a1ba if only tyler just shown leaked stuff and avoided speculation entirely it would have been much much better. He only ended up overhyping retards with his speculations and setting wrong expectations for people.
@alyx @hj The Leak is just few concepts of unfinished game from 2021 and early 2022. There is nothing to cry about, it was already scrapped or maybe developed further.
@a1ba @alyx @hj what if rockstar changes stuff to prevent it being an actual leak
@Thesciencepony @alyx @hj they probably have better reasons to do that, than the leak.

Source code leaks are more fun, it helps in reverse engineering release builds and creating mods. Though, the same knowledge can be applied to make cheats, which may be a problem for multiplayer.
@Thesciencepony @alyx @hj also their security department is probably really really mad right now. :)

But as I said before, they still deserve that. Remember how Take-Two/Rockstar DMCA'ed a lot of fan mods just because mods were better than their own remasters? xD
