When you mentioned "silky inside" it made me think of a Romanian dish that uses mostly beans. And just now I realize what a weird name it has: "beaten beans".
We boil the beans in a pressure cooker to ensure that buttery smooth inside, then mash them like you would potatoes, add crushed garlic and salt to taste. You might need to add some of the water you used to boil the beans in to ensure a soft creamy consistency.
Then as a topping, you fry chopped onions in oil and add tomato sauce.
