Some people have a really bad understanding of risk assessment... which by itself is not the bad part. The bad part is that they lack self awareness, and don't understand that other people are better at it.

Here's why a doctor would rather abide by ethic rules to avoid getting sued:
- you don't lose money to lawyers, that let's be honest are fucking lawyers, and aren't cheap
- you don't lose money in compensations to the victim
- your malpractice insurance premium doesn't increase to ridiculous amounts
- your job isn't put in jeopardy on account that you're now seen as a liability
- your reputation isn't tarnished
- your clients don't start avoiding you, cause they don't trust you anymore
- you don't lose potential new clients because of bad marketing through word of mouth, or worse your case appearing in the news

Overall a doctor understands that it servers him better in the long run to abide by the basic ethic rules established in the field. But hey, some people are just that stupid that they don't understand some basic things, and can't comprehend that others think farther than 5 minutes into the future.

It doesn't even matter if your doctor cares about you or not, he knows very well that it is in his best interest to act like he cares about your well being, because if he doesn't, his career won't last very long.
