I don't know precisely what the deal is, but I can guess. For many years it was a meme, to the point of making it's way in mainstream entertainment, that women were obsessed with pumpkin during this time of year.
Since transwomen are desperate to emulate the real thing, it would make sense that they'd adopt the same obsession.
