I'm honestly just surprised pixiv lasted this way as long as it did. It's the harsh reality of things that once a venue grows big enough, and gets enough attention as a consequence, it can't keep hosting that type of material, that's gonna be offensive to most of the outside world and probably even a lot of it's current users.
What has protected pixiv for so long was that it used to be a niche, less known site. But I don't think that's the case anymore. And I don't think there is a way for something like pixiv to go back to the shadows, to withdraw from the awareness of the mainstream society. As it has been exposed to the light, it either adapts to mainstream societal norms and continues to exist as such, or it closes down completely, and leaves the spot open, for something completely different to begin anew, and once again grow in the shadows. Until it too will grow too large.
