1) We pee because we need to get rid of urea, a byproduct of our metabolism, that is toxic to us.
2) Our urinary system is not as efficient as a bird's, so unfortunately you need a decent amount of water to dissolve and evacuate said urea.

There are probably more things to say, but that's the more important gist of it.

@alyx @thor It’s still impressive that the kidneys produce an initial ultrafiltrate of 180L(!) per day, but after lots of work in resorbing as much as possible of what we need, we only end up peeing on average 1.5L per day.

@alyx @thor urea is the primary one, yeah. But we also regulate a lot of other solutes, toxins, salts, and more. All expelled through our urine.

The human body is kind of cool.
