Next time a waitress hands me a QR code for a menu, I’m stabbing her in the throat

@pomstan I don't want to have to get out my phone, download a QR scanner and load a webpage just to see what I can order.

The whole point of a digital menu is that you can update it quickly and easily without having to reprint a paper one but most places I've seen that use a digital menu can't even properly maintain it unless they're a chain so it ends up out of date anyway.

Plus it involves bringing out phones at the dinner table which I'm not a big fan of. Restaurants are supposed to be a social experience and I think you lose that if everyone's on their phones the second they sit down

If you constantly need to update your menu, to the point where you only provide a digital menu, I have no faith in your restaurant or the quality of it's food.

I can appreciated a QR added to the regular menu, as a way to review the menu later on, and be enticed to visit the restaurant again, but a digital menu only is nothing but a sign of a bad restaurant.

@alyx @pomstan Well not entirely. Prices change, limited or seasonal menu items come and go, the menu itself changes. There *are* reasons to have a digital menu, but most places that have one don't justify it imo

The types of restaurants that will bother with limited or seasonal things are gonna be higher quality ones in the first place, that can easily cover changing some paper every once in a while, and will have enough self-respect to do so.

And a decent restaurant will try it's best not to change the prices too often anyway, cause it can drive repeat customers (that will easily notice this) away. Seeing small price hikes constantly is gonna leave a worse impression that a bigger rise once a year or so.

@alyx @pomstan Well yeah, that's exactly what I mean when I say most places can't justify it. Pretty much any amount of money put into maintaining a digital menu is better spent on a paper one.

Only exception being if the place is anal enough to be concerned about it's paper usage in which case it's probably serving boogmeat anyway
