Are you guys starting to understand what I meant by, "I don't have the money for a cat," now?
I live below the poverty line.
If it wasn't for Cornbread the Baest server would already have a separate 4 disk NVME RAID-Z with a hot swap for database but no we're still using the root/boot disks in RAID 1 for database and the first disk is already at 21% of its write endurance. Not that big of a deal since
@siinclaiir gifted me an Amazon gift card to upgrade the fans to Noctua so I'd no longer have to worry about them and they'd be near silent (the server is in my bedroom after all) but he also enabled me to buy a second Samsung 980 so root/boot (plus database and logs) could be on RAID 1. Which is actually kind of a plus because now both NVME drive in RAID 1 are staggered and thus unlikely to fail at the same time since the 2nd dive is only at about 16% write capacity.
I even managed to migrate the system and database from a single dive to a raid one with one drive missing, and then to a raid 1 with both drivers with zero downtime!
So far, neither drive has any sector failures and still has 100% of their reserves left so I'm not too worried and I've since taken measures to help prolong the life of the drives.
Next big upgrade will be a PCIe x16 to x4 m.2 drives (one with a cooling fan if it's in the budget) to format as ZFS and use just for database taking 90+% write off of my RAID 1 boot drives.
I'll cover the cost of a PCIe x8/x16 to 2x m.2 plus a matching m.2 drive to use as a hot spare out of my own pocket.
The upgrade after that will be to upgrade the server from 64 GB of RAM to 128 GB of RAM.
Then there will be a (likely) Intel GPU for video encoding for PeerTube.
After that, either doubling the HDD storage or adding additional machines to help distribute the load.
However, Cornbread will always come first. I'm so thankful for everyone bullying me into adopting him. He brings me so much joy and I don't even want to imagine where he'd be if you all didn't bully me into keeping him and helping me pay for initial experiences since I'm a poorfag.
I strive to make everyday the best day Cornbread's had because I love him.
He's the best cornbread I could ever ask for!
