is it normal for brand new hdd's to have a bunch of empty raid partitions?

@ivesen I haven't bought new drives (either hdd or ssd) in a while, and I never make a note of how they come. But I think it's either they're empty and unformatted (I think not even a partition table), or maybe they're ntfs (for easy Windows). Could the software that is reporting this be wrong?

@alyx might just be some leftover bits from factory testing, honestly not sure, but it's a bit annoying since wipefs doesn't want to delete the signatures :reeEEE:
@alyx @ivesen Looks like an issue with proprietary partition viewing software to me.

For me it's GNU parted or gparted.
