20 years ago, you needed to be unable to speak words to be diagnosed with autism.

Today, all you need is to be a bit more passionate about math, or science, or tech, or even to spend too much time online or playing video games.

Most of the rise in autism reported is simply because of an inflation of numbers from using a much more loose definition for autism. Don't know if anyone's still tracking the number of cases using the more strict definition of autism from decades past.
