I'm glad to see people from different political backgrounds come together to shit on the news of the Starship Troopers remake.

I'm conflicted. Blomkamp has made good movies. Not one has matched District 9 so far, but he's been ok.
On the other hand, considering today's political context, the amount of pressure that is gonna be on this remake, to turn it into an exercise of scoring political points... it's gonna be insane. I don't see how this would be allowed to be just a good modern adaptation of the novel.

@alyx @hfaust @anemone District 9 was a leftist allegory movie, so this is the usual Hollywood doubling down. Verhouven tried to make a parody movie but people still liked and rooted for the troopers. Now they're going to "make things right" by redoing that?
It's going to turn into another Bateman/Homelander situation where people root for the "evil white guys" even harder
@WandererUber @alyx @hfaust @anemone ”space refugees bring nothing but trouble with them” was what i got out of district 9
@professionalbigot69 @alyx @hfaust @anemone that's how it went for the first starship troopers as well. You were supposed to dislike the troopers
A non-subversive adaptation of the book would be the highest pinnacle of kino
@WandererUber @professionalbigot69 @alyx @hfaust @anemone The district 9 alien battle suit is pretty similar to the power armor in the starship troopers book. Blomkamp could probably pull it off if they want to actually make a good movie, rather than just half ass some liberal slop.

Visually it would definitely be a great movie. All of his work focuses on sci-fi and alien stuff. It's right up his alley. The question is whether he'd get the story, characters and political world building right.
