It's not even the full game, it's a demo... but yeah, audio could be the most likely culprit. Actual old game audio was compressed so hard that it would make 128kbps mp3 look amazing by comparison.
Some of it could also be bloat from the engine. Imagine it being made in Unity or Unreal and it was just compiled with a bunch of code bloat that it doesn't even touch on runtime.

So badly compressed video instead of badly compressed audio. I guess we were close, but not close enough. Though I guess there's nothing stopping it being an bloated audio thing too.
