>RSS never tracked you
You sure about that? How is it that RSS podcasts I used to listen to knew how many people downloaded the episodes? They definitely were tracking something.

>Email never throttled you
The standard technically doesn't, but so much email would go through Gmail, Hotmail (later Outlook) and Yahoo, and they'd have such shitty spam filters, that email not coming from big corporations would effectively get throttled by being sent to spam.

>Blogs never begged for dopamine
Of course they did. This is the stupidest lie, and the reason I felt the need to write this. The majority of blogs were always the territory of attention whores who thought their ideas were important enough for people to read them. I knew a few people who had Wordpress blogs, and they'd share the links with friends and whoever, and had the view counter and everything. The dopamine was back then too, but people hadn't realized it yet. Then after Wordpress and Blogger came the days of Tumblr, which increased the dopamine like crazy, by allowing people to reshare and like posts easier. And eventually that gave way to Twitter as the dopamine hit everyone takes part in.
