I've been thinking about something after hearing Tim Pool rant about AI this past week. I'm seeing more and more people recently start saying that democracy failed, or that liberalism failed, and whatnot.
So I've been trying to think what government structure could realistically replace it. I don't think we'll have a retry of anything that has been tried already. So I don't think a return to old school monarchy is possible. Nor will we see fascism or communism again. But it's also hard to imagine something completely original...
But with the AI rants and fearmongering that has been growing for the last half a decade, I ended up envisioning "techno-feudalism". We'd go back to having a king or kings, but it would be an AI king, with limitless computational power, with enough knowledge to assign each individual to the best job that fits their abilities.
You'd essentially have a class system again, with zero individual mobility, because the AI already calculated the perfect job for you. You're probably not gonna be born into your class and forced into the job your parents did, like you'd have in classic feudalism. The selection will be done later in life and there would be some possibility that you'd be assigned something different from your parents, but that also includes having a worse job.
But the minutia of daily life probably fits more or less with what the original post describes. Although, you'll be very limited when it comes to any vice. Drinking, eating unhealthy, drugs... I have a hard time imagining those will be permitted.
As for the government lying to you... the AI will be the government. And whatever it will do, I don't even know if it'd be accurate to call lying. It might very well not lie at all, and just be intellectually so advanced, that it can argue with anyone till they either become convinced that the AI is right and knows best, or they get exhausted of arguing and just do what the AI tells them to, even if they disagree.
