@theorytoe This is so stupid... you're a mayor. You're not in charge of foreign affairs. You not only have no place to visit Israel or Ukraine, you have no right.

Also, depending on what you mean by the word "Jewish" Israel may, or may not be a Jewish state at this very moment.
I've heard the word "Jew/Jewish" refer to 3 things: religion, ethnicity (or race) and nationality.
Right now, Israel is NOT a Jewish religion state. There are people of multiple religions, and atheists, that live, with citizenship, in Israel.
Israel is also not a Jewish ethnicity (race) state, as there are citizens with Palestinian or Arab ethnicity that live and work over there. Not to mention that the whole Jewish ethnicity thing is not that unified either, with Ashkenazi Jews, European Jews, etc., all living there. So Israel really isn't what you'd call an Jewish ethnostate.

If you talk about "Jewish" as being the nationality, then sure, Israel is a Jewish nationality state, in the same way you'd say France is a French state (keeping in mind that these days France has black minorities with citizenship and all that, and likely all sorts of other ethnic minorities, besides the French ethnic majority, but everybody has the French nationality bestowed on them).

The thing I hate about how the same bloody word (Jewish) is used to mean different things is that it becomes confusing, and bad actors intentionally exacerbate and amplify the confusion, as a means to attack those who are ethnically Jews.
"Why do (((they))) get to have an ethnostate and we don't?! Checkmate atheist!"
Because they don't. They have a state based on nationality, the exact same way you have. To put it in terms you'd understand, it's as if USA was called White Land, and your nationality was called "Whites", and all the African Americans would be called "Black Whites". Kinda stupid, ain't it? Well, Israel literally has Muslim Jews...

@alyx @theorytoe I get what you're saying, but I think most Jews who live in Israel (and a solid percentage of those who live in the US) would deport all the non-jews that live in Israel if they could, and make it a specifically ethno-religious state.

Can't speak on that to be honest. The few Jews I've seen speaking on these matters seem pretty content with the current status-quo, and the only thing they want changed is that the likes of Hamas and Hezbollah basically stop with the missiles. But that's not enough to extrapolate to what most Jews want.
Though, since Netanyahu's popularity is not that great, even in Israel, I doubt the majority of Jews are keen on the kinds of military operations that would be required to do this kind of a ethnic cleaning. They're probably already complacent with the status-quo.

@alyx @theorytoe well, in 1950, I think the overwhelming majority of Americans would have shipped blacks back to Africa. But political machinations prevented that from happening. I don't see how it's any different in Israel.
