I knew Firefox was kinda bad, but I didn't know it was THIS bad. What the fuck happened? The meme was that Chrome was eating all your ram. When did the situation switch around this badly?

@alyx idk, but i noticed it in 2024 when i switched back to chrome. I had firefox behave pretty badly under memory pressure, and when I moved back to chrome, not only did it behave better when there was memory pressure, there were less memory pressures since... it uses less ram. Also,

Well, I haven't used Firefox in forever. So I guess it had all the time in the world to become shit without me noticing. I tried switching to it a while ago, but I ultimately abandoned it because of a few issues I had with FF that I just hated.
Don't think I did a proper memory comparison during that time, though it's not like I have a great benchmark to compare against. I use Vivaldi, and considering how feature rich it is, it's probably the most memory hog Chromium browser.

@alyx for me, i used it for years on linux and it was quite awful. I literally won't go back to it, only use it as a backup

I haven't used Firefox as my main browser for extended periods of time ever since Chrome got extension support and Adblock was available.
